About
the MX-5 CUP DEVELOPMENT SERIES - presented by MER
The
MX-5 Cup Development Series is an entry-level, nationwide race series
based on the very successful Mazda MX-5 Cup professional championship.
It uses the same ruleset, apart from the brand of raceing tire used.
The series allows a driver to experience the close competition that
the MX-5 Cup provides, while doing less races and traveling. It allows
a less experienced driver to get their feet wet, learn the ropes and
get seat time in one of these cars in preparation for a run at the
full Mazda MX-5 Cup series title for the fraction of the cost. There
will be a cash prize fund, along with contingency awards - and a very
exciting year-end award to the champion. While the race series is
eight races in length held over four race weekends, only six races
count toward the championship. This allows someone to either miss
a weekend or have some bad luck on a weekend, and still fight for
the title.
Race cars are available from any of the current professional MX-5
Cup teams, so you can also get a chance to evaluate a team to see
if you want to run with them the following year in the Mazda MX-5
Cup series. You can run only the races in your area, or sign on for
the entire season and get valuable seat time at some world-class tracks
around the country. The series visits such renowned venues as Mazda
Raceway Laguna Seca, Infineon Raceway, Road America and Road Atlanta.
All of these are tracks that should be on any racer's 'must-drive'
list, so this series gives you that opportunity. If you are interested
